The “Opera White” project was launched in 2020 with the aim of enhancing opera as an educational and cultural tool promoting the social and psycho-physical well-being of residents in care homes (RSAs). Developed by As.Li.Co – Teatro Sociale di Como and the Metropolitan City of Milan, the initiative currently engages over 500 residents and 30 staff members. The 2024 edition, centred on Puccini’s Turandot and enriched with dedicated activities in music therapy and singing, was designed to further strengthen the active involvement of both older adults participants and care workers. This paper presents the findings of a participatory evaluation of the 2024 edition, carried out using a qualitative research methodology that involved residents, family members, staff, and project coordinators. The study explored the educational impact of “Opera White” through three main dimensions: changes in the residents’ perceived well-being, the distinctive features of the cultural and educational framework offered, and the effects on the organisational functioning of the participating RSAs. Preliminary findings indicate a significant improvement in the intellectual and emotional well-being of the older adults a positive stimulation of autobiographical memory and the recollection of personal experiences.
