<abstract xml:lang="en">

For millions of years, mankind and their ancestors have lived in relationship with animals, they fed on them and exploited them in various ways: as a source of food, clothing or companionship, but also for the transport of people, material goods or armies. Our survival has always depended on domestic animals, that have contributed to changing the course of human history in many ways. Uomini e (non solo) topi investigates the ancestral relationship that has united the evolution of human and animal populations, highlighting the different ways in which it has expressed itself. The topic is addressed with an inter- and multi-disciplinary approach, making use of the contribution of various research sectors such as palaeoecology and archaeo-zoology, in an attempt to rearrange the large amount of data currently available, in order to understand what has been - and still continues to be - the role of animals in human social, economic, cultural and ecological progress.
