      <abstract xml:lang="en">
        <p>The Vocabulary Database is a lexical organiser, aimed at helping to achieve a marked and rapid increase in one's vocabulary. It enables the English-language learner to store in one single place the multitude of new vocabulary items acquired through classroom or independent study, and at the same time it provides a key for their rapid retrieval. The Database is made up of numerous 'files' such as Synonyms, Opposites, False Friends, Multiple Meanings, Suffixes, Phrasal Verbs etc. in which to enter data taken from readings and classroom activities.
The Vocabulary Database is suitable for all courses from Pre-Intermediate on where the expansion of one's active vocabulary to improve reading ability or oral expression is a primary objective. It is also a valid resource for reading-oriented self-instruction programmes.
