The idea behind this book – devoted to the relations between adults and children – emerged within a specific educational experience launched in an experimental manner in 2006 by the faculty of educational science of Florence University and now in its fourth edition. These are teaching courses held in the evening and on Saturdays to make it easier for students with daytime jobs to attend the lessons. The quest for new forms of organisation was accompanied by a meditation on teaching, which brought out several very interesting educational themes which were effectively transversal to the various disciplines. This book presents the results of this methodological approach, aimed at fostering a conscious, reflective and personal learning. As the title suggests, the essays are designed to focus the question of the educational relationship within a multidisciplinary perspective. Us-them, to remind ourselves that adults have a fundamental and inescapable responsibility. The relationship is typically asymmetrical, with special features and decidedly variable over time. It has in fact been marked for centuries by a failure to recognise the needs of the youngsters and their own subjectivity, to the point of arriving at disturbing levels of violence and coercion. Such cases have been justly referred to a 'black pedagogy', which sadly is far from being everywhere a thing of the past, and even in Italy has left deep and persistent traces. For these reasons the study of the educational relationship has numerous relevant aspects of interest, all extremely topical, and represents a fundamental argument that adults must consciously address. Educators and teachers, parents and students, can all thus enhance their sensitivity and competence with a view to consolidating the reflective practices that are now considered absolutely indispensable for those who live in contact with children and adolescents.

L'idea di questo volume – dedicato alla relazione tra adulti e bambini – è nata all'interno di una particolare esperienza formativa che la Facoltà di Scienze della Formazione dell'Università di Firenze ha avviato in via sperimentale nel 2006 ed è giunta attualmente alla sua quarta edizione. Si tratta di corsi di insegnamento svolti in orario serale e di sabato per favorire l'effettiva frequenza delle lezioni da parte di una utenza studentesca che spesso svolge per l'intera giornata un'attività lavorativa. La ricerca di nuove forme organizzative è stata accompagnata da una riflessione sulla didattica che ha permesso di sviluppare alcune tematiche formative di grande interesse, di fatto trasversali alle diverse discipline. Il risultato di questo approccio metodologico è contenuto in questo volume, che aspira a promuovere un apprendimento consapevole, riflessivo e personale. I saggi intendono mettere a fuoco, in una prospettiva multidisciplinare, la questione della relazione educativa, come il titolo suggerisce: noi-loro, per ricordarci che gli adulti hanno una responsabilità fondamentale e non eludibile. Si configura come una relazione tipicamente asimmetrica, dalle caratteristiche particolari e decisamente variabili nel corso del tempo. È stata infatti segnata per secoli da un mancato riconoscimento dei bisogni dei minori e della loro stessa soggettività, fino a raggiungere pesanti livelli di violenza e coercizione. In questi casi si è giustamente parlato di una 'pedagogia nera' che purtroppo è ben lontana dall'essere ovunque abbandonata e che, anche nel nostro paese, ha lasciato tracce profonde e persistenti. Per questi motivi lo studio della relazione educativa ha molteplici e rilevanti aspetti di interesse, tutti di stringente attualità, e si pone come un argomento di base che gli adulti devono consapevolmente affrontare. Educatori e insegnanti, genitori e studenti, potranno così accrescere la loro sensibilità e competenza per consolidare quelle pratiche riflessive che oggi riteniamo assolutamente indispensabili per chi vive a contatto con bambini e ragazzi.
