      <abstract xml:lang="en">
        <p>This book addresses a subject of great interest for German culture, and that of Europe in general: the emergence and development in Germany, indicatively between 1890 and 1930, of an eclectic pan-artistic movement aimed at renewal of the art of printing and the circulation of artistic books. The author takes his cue from an analysis of the decline in the quality of the book as object, degraded to a serial product and deprived of its artistic specificity by the modern book industry, in order to offer a complete overview of the different expressions of the Buchkunstbewegung. Prominent figures of illustrators and publishers are the subject of in-depth study, as are the printing works and the journals that had the greatest cultural influence at the time, from the original viewpoint of their bibliophilic production.</p>

      <abstract xml:lang="it">
        <p>Il volume affronta un tema di grande interesse per la cultura tedesca e, più in generale, europea: la nascita e lo sviluppo in Germania, indicativamente fra il 1890 e il 1930, di un eclettico movimento panartistico votato al rinnovamento dell'arte della stampa e alla diffusione del libro d'arte. L'autore prende spunto dall'analisi del decadimento qualitativo dell'oggetto-libro, degradato a prodotto seriale e privato della sua specificità artistica dalla moderna industria libraria, per offrire un quadro esaustivo delle diverse espressioni della Buchkunstbewegung: le maggiori figure di illustratori ed editori sono oggetto di uno studio approfondito, al pari delle stamperie e delle riviste culturalmente più influenti dell'epoca, dalla prospettiva inedita della loro produzione bibliofilica.</p>
