Against the background of a system of relations between two worlds as different as university and prison, the volume traces the experience of the Prato prison university centre, started in 2000 by the University of Florence, the Penitentiary Administration and the Tuscany Region. In proposing an overall evaluation, the authors discuss the complex redefinition work that university teaching requires in the correctional environment, also with reference to the relationship between study and what the regulations define as "re-educational treatment".

Sullo sfondo del sistema di relazioni tra due mondi così diversi come quello universitario e quello carcerario, il volume ripercorre l'esperienza del polo universitario penitenziario di Prato, avviato nel 2000 dall'Università degli Studi di Firenze, dall'Amministrazione Penitenziaria e dalla Regione Toscana. Nel proporre una valutazione complessiva, ci si interroga sulla complessa opera di ridefinizione che richiede l'insegnamento universitario nell'ambiente penitenziario, anche in riferimento al rapporto tra lo studio e ciò che le norme definiscono come "trattamento rieducativo".
