Finding, recovering, photographing, inventorying, cataloguing, restoring and finally, if possible, finding the optimum location: these are the 'seven commandments' for those who pursue the aim of saving the historical and scientific heritage of their country, either officially, through museums, academies and universities, or privately as collectors. This is the commitment of the University Service Centre for the Protection and Promotion of Siena’s Ancient Scientific Heritage Collection of the University of Siena, which aimed at promoting this series of inventories of scientific instruments in order to share its protection activity for scientific and cultural heritage, mainly in the medical and surgical field.

Scovare, recuperare, fotografare, inventariare, catalogare, restaurare e infine, se possibile, collocare in modo adeguato: sono i ‘sette comandamenti’ per coloro che, in modo o istituzionalizzato in musei, accademie e atenei, o privatamente come collezionisti, perseguono l’obiettivo di salvare il patrimonio storico scientifico del proprio paese. Questo l’impegno del Centro Universitario per la Tutela e la Valorizzazione dell’Antico Patrimonio Scientifico Senese dell’Università degli Studi di Siena, che ha inteso promuovere questa collana di inventari di strumenti scientifici per divulgare la propria attività di tutela dei beni culturali scientifici prevalentemente in ambiente medico-chirurgico.
