      <abstract xml:lang="en">
        <p>The figure of Cristoforo Zabata represents an example of restless operator of the book in Italy in the second half of the 16th century. A paper maker, bookseller, writer and publisher, his name is often remembered for being the first publisher of a Canto of Tasso's Jerusalem Delivered. Up to now his human and professional figure was known in a very rough way. The volume, in addition to providing solid information on the biographical story of the protagonist, reconstructs his bookseller and publisher activity divided between Genoa, Pavia and Venice, assigning 21 editions to him, including the poetic collections of contemporary authors of which a full incipitary is provided. As evidence of his activity as a writer, the dedicatory letters and poetic compositions he created are published. The volume reconstructs a further piece of the variegated mosaic represented by the crafts of the book in 16th century Italy.</p>

      <abstract xml:lang="it">
        <p>La figura di Cristoforo Zabata rappresenta un esempio di irrequieto operatore del libro nell’Italia della seconda metà del XVI secolo. Attivo come cartaio, libraio, scrittore ed editore, il suo nome è spesso ricordato per essere stato il primo editore di un canto della Gerusalemme liberata di Tasso. La sua figura umana e professionale era fino a oggi nota in modo molto approssimativo. Il volume, oltre a fornire notizie certe sulla vicenda biografica del protagonista, ricostruisce la sua attività di libraio e di editore divisa tra Genova, Pavia e Venezia restituendo alla sua iniziativa ben 21 edizioni, tra le quali le raccolte poetiche di autori contemporanei delle quali viene fornito un incipitario completo. A testimonianza della sua attività di scrittore, vengono pubblicate le lettere dedicatorie e i componimenti poetici da lui realizzati. Il volume ricostruisce un’ulteriore tessera del variegato mosaico rappresentato dai mestieri del libro nell’Italia del Cinquecento.</p>
