      <abstract xml:lang="en">
        <p>The volume deals with the relevance of the pedagogical message of the 'Florentine school' created around the teaching of Codignola and Borghi and around the magazine Scuola e Città (“School and City”) in the 1950s, inspired by a critical-rational, secular and progressive pedagogy, inspired to the Dewey’s thinking, almost sixty-five years later. We live in a historical-cultural and socio-economic-political era profoundly different from the post-war society of the 1950s. Ours is a time where democracy, secularism and progress are sub judice, a time which outlines brand-new horizons (in knowledge, communication, production, culture, etc.). We live in a time where we face a model that has grown and faded over the course of several decades, but which today is still very current and relevant.</p>
      </abstract>
      <abstract xml:lang="it">
        <p>Il volume si occupa dell’attualità del messaggio pedagogico della ‘scuola fiorentina’ creatasi intorno al magistero di Codignola e di Borghi e intorno alla rivista Scuola e Città già nel 1950, ispirato a una pedagogia critico-razionale, laica e progressista, con al centro la lectio deweyana, quasi sessantacinque anni dopo. In un tempo storico-culturale e socio economico-politico così profondamente diverso da quello post-bellico degli anni Cinquanta, un tempo che vede democrazia, laicità e progresso posti sub judice e che viene a delineare orizzonti del tutto nuovi (nel conoscere, nel comunicare, nel produrre, nel fare-cultura etc.), siamo davanti a un modello cresciuto e sfumatosi nel corso di vari decenni, ma che oggi è ancora di grande rilevanza ed attualità.</p>
