The immensity of the human tragedy accompanying every catastrophe always brings a moment of reflection, which can be condensed in the instant of a photograph and translated into the disenchantment of a story, or be able to generate a new type of beauty through art and architecture. This work retraces some of the most dramatic moments in Italy’s recent history, from the collapsed buildings in Emilia to L'Aquila, from the ridges of Irpinia to the bright Belice valley, from the Alpine landscape of Longarone to Antonello’s unreal Messina For the city of L'Aquila, destroyed by the 2009 earthquake, the students of the Department of Architecture of the University of Florence imagined a city where life, music and memories are still possible thanks to the design of an auditorium, a sacred space and a small home.
