      <abstract xml:lang="en">
        <p>What is desire? What are the powers of reason? What drives men to go beyond nature? Where to look for the foundations and fundamental forms of coexistence? Following the thread of these questions, the study aims to set up a theoretical comparison between Hegel and Hobbes, in the belief that an all-out dialogue between the two philosophers can contribute to a better understanding of their respective systems. The examination of the many affinities of problematic approach, as well as of the radical divergences of the solutions, allows the profile of a self-critical modernity to emerge, sensitive to the assumptions of the project of human self-affirmation through reason and artifice.</p>

      <abstract xml:lang="it">
        <p>Che cos’è il desiderio? Quali sono i poteri della ragione? Che cosa spinge gli uomini a oltrepassare la natura? Dove cercare le basi e le forme fondamentali della convivenza? Seguendo il filo di queste domande, lo studio ambisce a impostare un confronto teorico tra Hegel e Hobbes, nella convinzione che un dialogo a tutto campo tra i due filosofi possa contribuire a una migliore comprensione dei rispettivi sistemi. L’esame delle molte affinità di impostazione problematica, così come delle radicali divergenze di soluzione, lascia emergere in controluce il profilo di una
modernità autocritica, sensibile alle ipoteche e ai presupposti del progetto di autoaffermazione umana mediante la ragione e l’artificio.</p>
