      <abstract xml:lang="en">
        <p>The book brings to light a little-known story: the arrival in Italy of thousands of Moriscos exiles, descendants of Arab-Muslim origin, settled for centuries in the Iberian peninsula, baptized following the Christian Reconquista (1492), often accused of crypto-Islamism and betrayal of the homeland, eventually expelled and deported from Spain (1609-1614). What are the obstacles encountered by refugees along the journey of their exodus? What is the behavior of the authorities with respect to the landings? And in what terms have the refugees interacted with the local populations? These are current questions to ancient problems that Italy, in its political fragmentation, has already experienced.</p>

      <abstract xml:lang="it">
        <p>Il libro ricostruisce una vicenda poco conosciuta: l’arrivo in Italia di migliaia di esuli moriscos, discendenti di origine arabo-musulmana, da secoli insediati nella penisola iberica, battezzati a seguito della Reconquista cristiana (1492), sovente accusati di cripto-islamismo e tradimento della patria, infine espulsi e deportati dalla Spagna (1609-1614). Quali sono gli ostacoli incontrati dai rifugiati nel cammino dell’esodo? Quale il comportamento delle autorità di fronte agli sbarchi? E in che termini i profughi hanno interagito con le popolazioni locali? Domande attuali poste a problemi antichi che l’Italia, nella sua frammentazione politica, ha vissuto già in altre occasioni.</p>
