<abstract xml:lang="en">

The PhD in Medieval History of the University of Florence is one of the oldest in the Italian university. Created in 1983 by Girolamo Arnaldi, Elio Conti and Raoul Manselli, it has activated all the cycles of courses, achieving significant results in research. Over the course of time, about sixty young scholars and twenty teachers have given shape to a human and intellectual experience based on the comparison and acceptance of different points of view. The history of the first twenty years is retraced here in a synthetic form, giving an account of the activities promoted and of the research conducted, and collecting the scientific profiles and the bibliography of each member.
