      <abstract xml:lang="en">
        <p>The Upper Rhine Valley (AVR) is borderland between the Italian regions of Tuscany and Emilia Romagna. The natural and cultural heritage based upon ethnobotanical knowledge in the AVR area has been studied, documented and analysed using semi-structured interviews. The information is presented through an ethnological and floristic catalogue, including both cultivated and wild species known to the local community. Although there is evidence of a great biocultural richness in the old oral tradition, important erosion phenomena threatening the conservation of ethnobotanical knowledge (immaterial culture) and associated plants (material culture) have been highlighted. The reasons behind the phenomena are partly due to the abandonment of agro-pastoral practices, as well as to the significant changes in the management of the territory and in the life forms.</p>

        <p>El Alto Valle del Reno (AVR) es una tierra de frontera entre la Toscana y Emilia- Romaña. El patrimonio natural y cultural basado en el conocimiento etnobotánico en el AVR ha sido estudiado, documentado y analizado a través de entrevistas semiestructuradas. La información se presenta en un catálogo etnofiorístico sobre las especies cultivadas y silvestres conocidas por la comunidad. Aunque ha sido documentada una gran riqueza biocultural perteneciente a la tradición oral y ancestral, se han resaltado importantes fenómenos de erosión que amenza la conservación de los conocimientos etnobotánicos (cultura inmaterial) y de las plantas asociadas (cultura material). Las razones de esto se deben en parte al abandono de las prácticas agropastorales y a los drásticos cambios en la gestión del terriorio y en las formas de vida.
