Multiculturalism affirms that people with different roots can co-exist across the borders of race, language, religion. In recent times, though, with the accentuation of new migratory processes, the West has found itself between integration and conflict. New political and religious fundamentalisms have emerged and are now threatening the confrontation between different cultures. On the one hand there is the face of fear, on the other the value of tolerance and respect. The volume collects some reflections presented at the 12th International Summer School on Religions (San Gimignano, 27-31 August 2005) organised by the International Centre for Studies on the Contemporary Religious.

Il multiculturalismo afferma che persone di radici diverse possono coesistere al di là delle frontiere di razza, lingua, religione. Negli ultimi tempi, con l'accentuarsi dei nuovi processi migratori, l'Occidente si è però venuto a trovare fra integrazione e conflitto. Si sono delineati nuovi fondamentalismi politici e religiosi che stanno minacciando il confronto fra culture diverse. Da un lato il volto della paura, dall'altro il valore della tolleranza e del rispetto. Il volume raccoglie alcuni interventi di riflessione presentati alla XII International Summer School on Religions (San Gimignano, 27-31 agosto 2005) organizzata dal Centro Internazionale di Studi sul Religioso Contemporaneo.
